Sharp tv question by tj: I have an older model sharp tv that after being on for few minutes starts to mess up?
You can hear some clicking noise inside the tv. My husband will hit the side or top of the tv and it will work for a few minutes but then starts making the noise and the pictures is distorted and rolling.Can anyone tell me why is would be doing this.

I own a 4 Gb Cruzer and decided to buy the 16 Gb to get some additional space. Even if you use U3, or like the Cruzer, the 16 Gb version is not a great buy. It works perfect and comes with additional U3 software, but it is terribly slow. I was appalled at the slow speed of the new drive, so I made three experiments to compare it rigorously with my former 4 Gb drive: (1) Copying a 291 Mb RAR file from the hard-drive to the Cruzer (2) Copying a combination of 8 main folders (with multiple sub-folders and files in them) totaling 307 Mb from the hard-drive to the Cruzer (3) Deleting both the RAR file and the 8 folder structure from the Cruzer drive. Here are the results: Cruzer 4 Gb: RAR – 37 s, Folders – 1:02, Delete – 13 s Cruzer 16 Gb: RAR – 1:06 min, Folders – 1:57 min, Delete – 27 s So.. basically twice as slow as the 4 Gb drive, which is a pain when using the drive daily. It is up to you. All I can say is that I am currently back to using the 4 Gb Cruzer and using the 16 Gb as backup. No issues at all. Speed: I copied 8 GB worth of data on the very first day. With write speeds around 15+ MB/s – it performed as expected. Its not the fastest but it is adequate for 99% of users. Durability: Well, I didn’t think I could say much about this except that it has worked fine daily for the last month or so. I will add that this little device did survive a full wash and dry cycle and still is chugging along. I think that speaks volumes about its durability. I know its a SSD so it should be expected to survive such things – but you don’t believe it until you see/experience it. Asthetics: It is very compact. It has an orange light that flashes when it is in action. The USB connector retracts. Simple, nothing fancy though it does have a nice look to it – what more can you ask for? The first thing to check is the wires connected to tv back to box. If that doesn’t work try running a different set of wires.

The colors are not fake, the skin tones are great and the picture is razor sharp. I am very picky about what passes for quality these days on flat screen panels, and this one is amazing. Sound is bit pitchy, but its not horrific. I hooked it up to my computer to test that and things were amazing as well – was able to play FPS action without any problems. Delivery was great. I ordered on Friday morning and had it ready to go on Tuesday Night. I will come back if there are any issues but so far so good! Almost returned it to the store because the picture was so dark. After many failed attempts to adjust it, I finally found the right settings and now the picture is gorgeous! Here’s what I found. First and foremost, turn off the OPC! This function is totally useless and only drives the set into the dark abysmal! Secondly, under the advanced settings, adjust the color temp to high. Finally, go to the power settings and click on power saving and select off. Bottom line, this set suffers from the Green Monster. They have programmed many energy saving features into this TV and all they do is make the picture dark. Now for the final tweak, I found on a forum that any THX dvd has a calibration feature on it. Running through this really makes the unit perform well. I used Finding Nemo and now all my Pixar films look almost 3D. To address the other comments about this TV, yes the remote is a bit toyish but it is laid out fairly well. I have no problem finding the buttons I need in the dark, many of them have a raised feature that makes this possible. The set itself looks very nice in my bedroom. One final note, it has a nice stand that is reinforced with metal, unlike many others that are all plastic. Great value for the money, I scored it for 8.00 at the BX on base because the box was damaged. Almost forgot, the sound quality is also top notch, my son even commented on how it sounded better than his Hitachi that cost quite a bit more.. Just remembered one more item of interest. Many people have commented that there is no listing for this set on the website for software updates. I called Sharp about this and found out that if you scroll to the bottom of the model number listing you’ll find “item not listed”. By selecting this you can input the model number. There are currently no updates to the firmware, but at least now I know how to check for them. I looked at many, many HDTV offerings before selecting the Aquos. I am very glad I did. It’s better than most costing hundreds more. The only negative I can find is the sound quality. It is a little weak but no more than others in this size. It is a very small gripe because I run the sound through a set of compact computer speakers with a sub and it sounds great. Ok I can usually fix anything on a computer but this problem has me stumped after 3 hours of troubleshooting.

I have a Nivida Geforce 8400 video card in my PC running windows XP SP3. The PC works fine on my other monitor boots up fine.

Well I got a Toshiba 20HL85 model LCD TV screen. I think that model is discontinued on the website but I got it probably 2 or 3 years ago.

I put the LCD TV in PC mode, pluged in the VGA cable from my PC/Video card to the LCD TV.

Here’s the strange problem.

My computer boot up and start up shows up on the LCD TV and everything seems fine.

After the normal Windows XP loading bar with black background for about 20 to 30 seconds the LCD TV just goes black as if nothing is pluged in with a “PC” in the lower right corner denoting it’s on the PC video setting (basically as if I unplugged it).

I’ve plugged it back into my other monitor and fooled around with the resolutions and acceleration settings. I’ve checked and fooled around with my video card driver and it’s settings. Nothing.

I consulted the LCD TV manual and there’s nothing with this issue in it.

I can’t find any drivers that I need.

Is there anyone who has heard of this issue or knows what to check that I missed?

This is the key thing….After windows boots, the LCD TV goes blank and stays there as if nothing is plugged into it when it is powered on.
I have A+ cert and have been fixing computers since I was 12 so I’m not a newb at this stuff.

My guess is that it’s the video card because I was able to get into safe mode and use safe mode on the LCD TV

so far only safe mode and VGA mode works on the LCD TV but goes blank after normal boot up.
I’ve tried it with refresh rate at 60hz as well… no luck.

Simple. Your Windows is set to run at a resolution too high for your LCD TV to handle. When an LCD TV encounters a resolution too high for it to display, it displays nothing.

That is why it works in safe mode and you can see the bootup screens, when the video signal from your PC is still at a lower resolution your LCD TV can display. Once it boots into normal-mode Windows, it uses the resolution you set it at, which is too high and refuses to work.

You need to re-connect your PC to the last monitor that worked, drop the resolution down to something lower, then reconnect your TV.

Oh, and you really should be using a DVI-to-HDMI cable instead of VGA.

I have a Dell and I am trying to connect to my toshiba television with a vga to rgb component cable… I have no picture it has bars of color across the screen. Any suggestions? I know friends that do this with the same adapter and it works…..PLEASE HELP!
