How to jailbreak a Sharp Aquos HDTV with Internet access

If like me, you feel cheated by the “internet access” provided by your Sharp TV, this guide will help you get around the homepage lock – and on the actual internet. If nothing else, you’ll be able to access the TitanTV program guide, as well as go to and bookmark any website you want. I have to warn you that Netflix will not stream on the 52LE700UN model – and flash will not work either. Depending on the TV model you have, your results may vary. Rest assured that your experience will still be disappointing! Let me know how it works for you.

Sharp television question by zizzy: Why will my television remote only work during the day NEVER once at night.?
We just recently bought a Sharp HD television for a room we never used before. It is wall mounted above the fireplace in a room surrounded by windows. We have a Motorola cable box( HD reciever DVR )and remote. The remote only works during the day, after dusk it does not work. You can change the channel manually using the box at night. We had the cable company install a new box and remote Control and nothing changed. I could really use some help with this it is driving me nuts.
Please Help!!!!

So far, so good …, February 19, 2010
By

Amazon Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
This review is from: SquareTrade 3-Year Samsung/Panasonic TV Warranty (50-1500 LCD, Plasma, LED) (Electronics)

I ordered the Mitsubishi WD-73C9, and a different warranty (provided by the same company) at the same time in November of 2009. I checked Amazon’s website in December just to see if the product I originally purchased was still the same price. It just so happened to be cheaper (or so I thought).

I emailed SQUARETRADE asking to be refunded the difference. I immediately put the situation to the back of my mind, expecting a reply about a month later. To my surprise, a rep replied within the next business day.

The rep courteously advised me to cancel the first warranty I had in the system (which is VERY easily done by going to their website), and then place a new order for the correct warranty product. And the rep assured me that I would receive a FULL MONEY REFUND for the incorrectly purchased product after the cancellation. And the rep also said that since I’ve already emailed a copy of the receipt, of the television I purchased from Amazon, that I would not have to go through that process again.

So I did all of those things. And everything happened just the way the SQUARETRADE rep said it would. I recevied a FULL MONEY REFUND from the incorrectly purchased warranty product; placed a new order for the correct product; received confirmation for all of those previously stated transactions; and when I checked my account on SQUARETRADE’s website, it shows that my receipt, for the television, has been appropriately associated.

Customer service is, so far, excellent! Let’s hope I’ll never have to use the warranty, but it is a peace of mind.

This review is from: SquareTrade 3-Year Samsung/Panasonic TV Warranty (50-1500 LCD, Plasma, LED) (Electronics)

So far haven’t used this yet (and hope fully don’t have to), but the 2 year warranty for open boxed item for only is well worth it for the peace of mind. I have a Samsung UN46C8000 so having a warranty is important especially when the purchase is upwards to 00+. I recommend looking for the right warranty for your device and for me, this is it!

Panasonic lcd tv question by : I have power but no pic on my Panasonic LCD tv. Model number tc-l37c22?

Panasonic lcd tv best answer:

Answer by Anov
OK.That means, the power supply is alright. In this case, three things that might happen as follows:
1) The TV has not been programmed according to the instruction given in its catalogue.
2) Connections are loose and not proper.
3) The video section of the tv is defective or out of order.

In my experience, I find 1) and 2) are the ones as mentioned above were found to be causes not to receive picture and sound by the tv of any model accordingly, Please therefore review the setting of the tv and proper connection of it. Once it is being done properly,tv will work fine.Good luck .

When a/m3) is the cause, the cover of it has to be opened and test it find the defective parts.
In my experience, the defective part is video power o/p parts usually mosfet.Thank you.

Works, but not great (terribly slow), January 7, 2010
By
Critic Critter (Baltimore, MD, USA) – See all my reviews

This review is from: SanDisk Cruzer 16 GB Cruzer USB 2.0 Flash Drive SDCZ36-016G-A11 (Personal Computers)

I have been a Cruzer user for the past 3 years and, yes, I like and use U3 software. I own a 4 Gb Cruzer and decided to buy the 16 Gb to get some additional space.

Even if you use U3, or like the Cruzer, the 16 Gb version is not a great buy. It works perfect and comes with additional U3 software, but it is terribly slow.

I was appalled at the slow speed of the new drive, so I made three experiments to compare it rigorously with my former 4 Gb drive:

(1) Copying a 291 Mb RAR file from the hard-drive to the Cruzer

(2) Copying a combination of 8 main folders (with multiple sub-folders and files in them) totaling 307 Mb from the hard-drive to the Cruzer

(3) Deleting both the RAR file and the 8 folder structure from the Cruzer drive.

Here are the results:

Cruzer 4 Gb: RAR – 37 s, Folders – 1:02, Delete – 13 s

Cruzer 16 Gb: RAR – 1:06 min, Folders – 1:57 min, Delete – 27 s

So.. basically twice as slow as the 4 Gb drive, which is a pain when using the drive daily. It is up to you. All I can say is that I am currently back to using the 4 Gb Cruzer and using the 16 Gb as backup.

Great Xbox 360 Storage Device, June 9, 2010
By

Amazon Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
This review is from: SanDisk Cruzer 16 GB Cruzer USB 2.0 Flash Drive SDCZ36-016G-A11 (Personal Computers)

This product works great as a storage device for the Xbox 360. It meets all of the requirements for the 360 and performs perfectly! I have half of it set aside for my Xbox and use the other half for personal files and my PS3 save data backups as well!

There are only a couple of drawbacks. The first is the very tiny spot on the back for attaching a keychain (actually, I couldn’t get a keychain to fit and instead put a cell phone lanyard with a keychain on the end on it). The second drawback is that when you have the device plugged into something there is a very bright, annoying pulsing light that emanates from the top. This can be very distracting when trying to watch Netflix movies from your Xbox.

Great USB Drive at a Good Value Price, July 8, 2009
By
CJ (Gwynedd Valley, PA USA) – See all my reviews

Amazon Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
This review is from: SanDisk Cruzer 16 GB Cruzer USB 2.0 Flash Drive SDCZ36-016G-A11 (Personal Computers)

I have had this device for over a month now and I have filled it over 65% already and have had no issues with speed or compatability. Worked on all platforms. I did remove the U3 SW as I prefer to use Portable Apps. I will break down the review as such:

Compatibility: I have used it on Win XP, Win Vista, Mac OS X and Windows 2000. No issues at all.

Speed: I copied 8 GB worth of data on the very first day. With write speeds around 15+ MB/s – it performed as expected. Its not the fastest but it is adequate for 99% of users.

Durability: Well, I didn’t think I could say much about this except that it has worked fine daily for the last month or so. I will add that this little device did survive a full wash and dry cycle and still is chugging along. I think that speaks volumes about its durability. I know its a SSD so it should be expected to survive such things – but you don’t believe it until you see/experience it.

Asthetics: It is very compact. It has an orange light that flashes when it is in action. The USB connector retracts. Simple, nothing fancy though it does have a nice look to it – what more can you ask for?

Price: This is certainly not the cheapest 16GB drive out there but with the SanDisk name behind it, it certainly is a value buy. Another plus.

I would highly recommend this product to anyone who is looking for a fast, widely compatible, durable and value USB drive that has enough space for anything you would want to put on it.

So in short- Buy It!

These are the best 3D Glasses I’ve used, September 9, 2011
This review is from: Panasonic TY-EW3D3MPK2 3D Glasses Twin Pack (Medium) (Electronics)

I originally bought the Avatar Package when I got my Panasonic 55ST30. I was not a fan of the second gen glasses and they didn’t fit well over glasses at all. I returned them and waited for something else to come out. I picked these up a couple weeks ago and they are great. The best 3D glasses I have used. They fit over glasses really well and I even forget I have them on sometimes while watching 3D. They are extremely light and the battery last forever. I charged them when I first got them for about 40 minutes and have been using them for 2 weeks now without having to charge them again. The only thing I didn’t like was they didn’t come with a case so I had to find one on my own. I couldn’t find any glasses case that would fit them so I got a pencil box. The 2 pairs of glasses fit great in the case and it looks good to. If you have a Panasonic 3DTV I would highly recommend these glasses! They are a huge step forward from the 1st and 2nd gen Panasonic glasses.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
This review is from: Panasonic VIERA TC-L19C30 19-Inch 720p LED HDTV (Electronics)

If you can’t stand the typical tinny sound of 19″ flat panel televisions this one is for you. Sound quality is on par with old huge 19″ t.v.’s. This has two 5 watt speakers, almost all others have two 3 watt speakers. Makes a huge difference in sound. Great picture as well. Family has several other size Panasonic Vierra’s, LCD and plasma, all great t.v.’s.

Received 36 hours after ordering, despite initial shipping estimate of 5-8 days!

Hot Set, August 3, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
This review is from: Panasonic VIERA TC-L19C30 19-Inch 720p LED HDTV (Electronics)

This television from Panasonic exceeded my expectations. With it’s LED screen, it has the best picture of any TV in my home. We have 4 Panasonic LCD HDTVs which all have a great picture. This LED has much better contrast than those sets. The picture is crisper, and much more defined.

The 5 watt speakers produce good sound. You will have to turn up and bass and treble, and turn on the built in surround though.

I wish that Panasonic would build more LED TVs. It is far superior to their LCD TVs, and much thinner too.

I bought this TV without seeing it. The name said it all, Panasonic.

I own several Panasonic TV’s and they all are fantastic.

This is my first flat screen TV. I bought it for my bedroom.

The picture is awesome and it can be viewed at any angle without distortion.

The speakers produce a full rich sound. The remote control is easy to use.

The SD card feature makes this TV a cut above all other small TV’s.

I would highly recommend this TV to anyone. It’s just wonderful.

I’m planning to buy another one for my kitchen.

Panasonic television question by Kimberly: Why is Panasonic Viera TV screen blinking on Dish Network guide?
I have a 50″ Panasonic Viera television connected to Dish Network. Have had this set up for several years with no problem. Now if I access the channel guide in Dish Network, the picture blinks and flashes madly. We have no problems accessing anything else. The flashing is making us crazy.

Has anyone else experienced this and is there a fix? Thanks.

Answer by R T
Try resetting your Dish Net receiver. Unplug the power, count to 10 and plug it back in. It will take a few minutes to reacquire the satellites.

OK but, May 19, 2011
By

This review is from: Kantek LCD Monitor Magnifier Filter, Fits 19-Inch LCD Screen (MAG19L) (Office Product)

OK but has a terrible glare problem. I go to my clients computers from mine online and they sometimes have such small fonts I couldn’t work without a magnifier of some kind. This does the trick and my husband likes his because his eyes are not as good as they used to be even with glasses.

The glare problem is by day – shows my reflection AND by night – shows reflection of ceiling light. The daylight lamp is over the desk and does NOT show. Hope this helps

Panasonic question by Frank H: Is it easy to upload video from the panasonic hpx170 onto a macbook pro?
Im thinking of getting a panasonic hpx170 and i was just wondering if it is easy to get the video from the camera onto a macbook pro to edit. Im going to just plug the camera straight into the computer and not use any p2 card adapters.

Answer by Little Dog
The Panasonic AG-HPX170 has a 6-pin firewire 400 port. The MacBook Pro has a 9-pin firewire 800 port. You need to find a 6-pin to 9-pin firewire cable. Check Amazon.

I don’t know if the camera mounts as an external mass-storage device to copy the video data files to the Mac’s hard drive or if the video is imported (like miniDV or DVCPRO tape).

Great PQ, but HORRIBLE (delayed) brightness fluctuations, July 20, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What’s this?)

To preface this I have had 2 P50ST30s (one replacement because of the problems I will talk about below) and Amazon was awesome with the whole return and replacement. One of the best companies I have dealt with. This is a very long review as I would like you to understand what you are buying beforehand.

ALL VERSIONS OF PANASONIC 2011 TVs ARE EXHIBITING THIS PROBLEM.

I was excited when I first set up my TV and took the time to age the phosphors in the TV for 150 hours by running slides (a step that can be skipped but the phosphors degrade in the first 100 hours faster than the rest of it’s life). I set up the blu-ray player and after dialing in the settings it looked awesome. Then the brightness fluctuations happened.

The best way I can explain brightness fluctuations ( Fluctuating Brightness or FBr) is will be a leap in lighting. When you have a dark scene the whole picture will darken some to give more detail to a shadowed area. It is necessary to give great picture quality in any plasma. Normally what will happen is that it will gradually fade into darker or lighter, this TV does it all in one step. A drastic comparison would be a pitch black room where you turn a light on vs turning a dimmer light on gradually. What you see on the screen is picture that will switch from dark to lighter. It is most noticeable when you have 2 scenes switching back and forth (think dialogue between 2 characters where it switches between ones face to the other) and one scene is darker than the other. You can easily see this in the movie Hereafter around minute 40.

This problem is exacerbated by a delay in the video processing of the switch between darker scenes and lighter scenes. In almost all video they will have scenes cut and pasted together. When this happens the lighting usually will change for various reasons. When the scenes cut from one to another this TV will take about 0.5-1 second to process the lighting difference to adjust to give more detail to shadowed areas. Given that it does it in one leap as mentioned above, it severely distracts you from watching the movie and enjoying it.

Darker Movies will usually bring out these symptoms to it’s max. When I went to watch Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, I came to the point where I started counting the fluctuations instead of watching the movie. I counted 56 total in one watching. My wife didn’t watch HP with me but she commented on it while watching Castle a few times, then more and more on other shows.

The reviews are definitely favorable as it has a great picture quality without doubt. Most professional reviewers mention fluctuating brightness problem, but gloss over it. Why they did I am not sure. It seems that some sets show this dramatically, while others don’t. My first one (the one I counted 56 fluctuations on for HP) I would say was very bad compared to a slightly less worse one that I got the second time around. I re watched HP on the second one to see if I could just enjoy the movie, got to the point I started counting again and only counter 32 which were more tame but still easy to spot without even looking for them. To make sure it just wasn’t me seeing things because I knew when they were, I made (yes she wasn’t to happy about it) her watch Tron with me. We first started Tron in 2d and she saw it some; then I popped in the 3d disc and she was pointing it out in every other scene.

I placed a complaint with US Panasonic as this was unacceptable, trying to explain it the best as I am now. I was walked through changing multiple settings (CATS off, trying all modes, changing contrast and all other settings, using 3 different HDMI cables along with composite and component cables) with nothing relieving the issue. Their response was that this is a feature of the TV and that it was working properly. Some of their exact words in the email I later received were ” the picture dimming (fluctuating brightness) is negligible and should be considered within the TV’s design specification.”

In Spain a gentleman Documented this for Panasonic to prove that something was wrong. If you would like to see how bad this is; there has been a video posted by a member of a great forum for high def junkies that shows this instance (Google ” VT30 hereafter ” and it will show in the youtube vids) if you would like to see exactly what I am talking about. The TV here was the VT series which is Panasonic’s flagship model and cost well over ,200 of this TV.

Since the posting of the above video Spain got a firmware update to 1.520. The same person posted the exact same scene with the same setup which you can also view by clicking on his name or clicking on it on the right hand side. It eliminates this problem, since then Europe Panasonic have acknowledged that there is something that they are looking into (circumventing saying there is a problem). But US…

Couldn’t be happier, March 30, 2011

Like everyone else interested in making the big screen purchase, I spent hours every night reading reviews, shopping around, comparing specs and prices, and trying to decide whether I should go lcd or plasma. Ultimately, I ended up just going to the local BB and seeing which one looked and felt right to me. I purchased this beautiful 55in plasma and I couldn’t be happier about it. I’ve had it for over two weeks now and I don’t have a single complaint. The picture is great and the sound is just fine for my living space(apartment). The 2D-3D conversion is alright but you should not expect much from any television’s conversion. The 3D Blu-Ray is a different story – The Ultimate Wave Tahiti is AMAZING (I had to watch it twice because I didn’t follow a word because I was so blown away by the picture) and Resident Evil Afterlife was fun to watch (the 3D at least).

I realized that all the hours I spent reading super detailed reviews was somewhat a waste of time because when it comes down to it, I don’t really care about or even notice the subtle differences that so many people compare. I just wanted a solid tv with great picture at an affordable price and this was it.

The setup was beyond easy. The remote and on-screen menus are very user-friendly.

The widgets all work just fine. Watching youtube videos on a 55in can be entertaining.

My roommate and I are traveling surfers and licensed skydivers so we have plenty of GoPro HD videos that we watch on this tv using the SD card slot(we also watch them through the youtube widget)and they look phenomenal.

BOTTOM LINE: If you want a solid big screen with great picture at the right price then this is it. Highly recommend. If you have any questions then just leave a comment.

Fluctuating Brightness Can Break Your Movie Watching Experience…or not!, July 21, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What’s this?)

My previous tv (which I sold off already, regrettably) was a Panasonic th-42pz80u. This was my first step into the wonderful world of plasma tv’s & I have nothing but praise for it. I recently decided that I wanted to squeeze the largest tv I could fit into my entertainment armoire & considering how much I loved my old tv I figured it was a safe bet to stick with the Panasonic brand.

Immediately after turning the st30 on & popping in Planet Earth on Blu Ray for a test run I was extremely happy with both the new size of screen in front of me & the fantastic picture quality. I played around some more, tweaking the picture & features on my new set & decided to start watching some of my select Blu Rays that don’t have letterboxing. I read somewhere that it’s best to watch movies that take up the whole screen for the first 100 hours or so of a new plasma. I’m no tech head so I just do what I’m told. :p

Not long into watching “Starship Troopers” I noticed my first flicker, or fluctuation. Every time the film made a cut there was an adjustment in brightness that came a half second later. I began rewinding it over & over & couldn’t believe my eyes. After the awful flickering in the beginning I continued to watch & noticed it happening throughout, though not as bad as the start of the film. I’ve watched a few movies since then, such as – Sin City (noticeable but not terrible), LotR Fellowship of the Ring (noticeable but not terrible), & OH MY GOD Final Fantasy: Advent Children. Final Fantasy was just unwatchable with flickering all over the place. For those who don’t know, Final Fantasy is entirely computer animated which might have something to do with it being so noticeable. I would expect the Pixar films to behave just as poorly but I can’t say for certain.

I started researching & discovered that the fluctuating brightness (or “FBr”) is not an unusual phenomenon. Just google “panasonic fluctuating brightness” & read up on it. The forum “high def junkies” is a good place to start as they have been discussing it in depth for a while.

I haven’t lost all hope yet! There has been talk of Panasonic sending out a firmware upgrade to their Spanish customers on a case-by-case basis that actually FIXES this problem! Or at least adjusts it so the fluctuation isn’t visible to the naked eye. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this firmware makes it stateside so I can begin enjoying my tv. If that happens I will definitely change my rating of 1 to a 5 star. I’ll be keeping my eye on that 30-day return date in the meantime, however.

********EDIT**************

After emailing Panasonic & starting a case with them I waited patiently for an email or a phone call, but after a month none came. I kept up with the community on high def junkies & eventually discovered that Panasonic had started sending local repair guys out with a new A-Board, or if you’re one of the lucky few a much simpler fix was available if a Panasonic employee could come to your house. I called Panasonic to see what the status on my case was, only to find out they had closed my case without any kind of notification. Jerks. The person I spoke with on the phone was apologetic & knew exactly what I was talking about when I brought up fluctuating brightness. I was FINALLY getting somewhere. Within a week of that phone call they sent the replacement A-Board to my local repair shop & I had an “FBr” free tv!

For those curious, they did have to take apart my tv. After watching that terrifying ordeal it was just a simple unplug-this plug-in-that & they were done. VERY happy overall.

After the fix this is easily a 5-star tv in my book. I’m a little conflicted on showering it with nothing but praise, however. I didn’t exactly buy this tv day-1 of it’s release & it took them this long to even acknowledge there was a terrible defect in a large number of their sets.

For those few who complain about picture quality I will agree that right out of the box the picture quality doesn’t really jump out at you, but after buying a calibration disc & tweaking the custom settings it really looks amazing. Easily the best in its price range.

In short – if you’re on the fence about this set, don’t be. If you’re unlucky & get one that was built before they had this fix installed, Panasonic will handle it!

Sharp Led Tv

Sharp led tv question by Canadian Vibes: SAMSUNG LED TV UN46C8000 MOVIES LOOKS SO FAKE, LIKE SOAP OPERAS?
Bought a Samsung LED TV UN46C8000 Last week. TV is very sharp. BIG PROBLEM: Blue Ray movies looks so fake that it looks more like a joke. They infact look like you are watching some cheap home made movies. It is true for all the Blue Ray movies played. Called the store ( ABCwarehouse, BTW: beware, they don’t return the items or exchange once you out the door ) had no knowledge of any TV settings to change. Gave me some bull crap about live TV image and went on and on until i hung up the phone. The same problem exists when you watch movies on NETFLIX.Ca. I researched on the internet for hours and fooled around the settings.
The final result: TURN OFF AUTO MOTION, CHANGE CABLE TO COMPONENT,NO HDMI as it will make movie look so fake. Does anyone else have more solutions about using HDMI Cable but making the movie look more like a Movie than a TV show. Should have bought PLASMA…….LED SUCKS as it is so sharp that everything looks UNREAL.

Sharp led tv best answer:

Answer by Texperson
You have to adjust the Auto Motion Plus setting, so whoever told you that is right. Check your owner’s manual as to where it’s located in the tv’s main menu, then start turning it down, little by little, till the picture looks like you want it to. Or just turn it off, as many people do because they hate the effect you are talking about.

Make sure the tv’s not set to Dynamic pic setting also.

Then go into your blu ray player’s own set up menu, go to the video section and be sure it’s set to 1080p with 24 FPS ON.

The look has nothing to do with HDMI, etc., it’s just the Auto Motion Plus. And blu ray player’s have to be set up right, and each time you update your blu ray player, you will have to adjust it again as they go back to default when updated.

Not just good for the price…, November 17, 2011
By

This review is from: Toshiba 55TL515U 55-inch Natural 3D 1080p 240 Hz LED-LCD HDTV with Net TV, Black (Electronics)

It is a good TV, period. Make that GREAT! No issues that are really causing a problem have come up since its purchase. Some minor issues that I expected after doing my research really never came up (except for poor sound), and really even they were nitpicky type things. We have ours hooked up to our Toshiba 3D Wi-Fi Blu Ray player, the Wii and our Tivo, everything works wonderfully. Would buy this TV again and would recommend to friends.

In a nutshell –

What needs improvement:

Sound is poor, volume setting goes to 100, but, sound only really increases till about 45 on volume bar.

LED local dimming can show flickering (minor), if not set-up just right.

Just a little slow to power on and to change channel inputs/channels (but, not really that bad).

What makes it Great!:

Touch panel buttons on front are great (power, channel, volume, etc.).

Smart features are good (could be improved, but, are OK.)

Easy wireless connectivity.

Flawless 3D – very low eye-strain, little or no cross talk, very sharp image.

Thin and lite-weight for its screen size.

Hi-end, multi-featured, backlit Remote with quick access buttons (Netflix).

We have had several Toshiba products in the past and I knew that they make a good product, this is no exception. Here is my experience…

After months of research and looking at this, and looking at that, I knew that there were three TVs that could do what I wanted. 1) 1080p 2) Passive 3D, 3) the “just right” refresh rate, 4) LED backlighting, 5) Wi-Fi/Smart TV capable – and at least 55in. screen. There were about 3 that came out of that quest, this Toshiba, an LG and a Vizio. The Vizio had a 480hz refresh rate, but, more is not better. Also, the Vizo had edge lit LED, which would contribute to less than desired contrast ratio. Then, I learned that there were numerous customer complaints, on several sites – so that is what axed the Vizio early on in my search. As for the LG, well, there again the refresh rate came up (I’ll get to that in a bit). The LED back lighting was identical for the Toshiba and the LG, I was even told by the sales person that Toshiba had licensed that particular form of LED Local Dimming from LG (don’t know if that is true or not), and in that aspect they performed the same. So, with everything being almost equal I went back looked at the refresh rate. When I was looking at the LG 55 in. passive 3D TV model, I decided against that one because at best, I could not confirm that it even had 120hz refresh rate (which is what it said it did). Even if it did, the way that passive 3D works (two different fields) you would need to half the 120hz and you are down to 60hz. So, when I could confirm that this Toshiba has 240hz refresh rate, that is what sold me. I know I kind of sounds like Goldie Locks, this one is too high and the other too low – AND one was just right. But, remember, you will be looking at this thing for hours – the last thing I wanted was eye strain and/or a headache – and that is what you will get if the refresh rate is too low or two high. After all, one of benefits of passive 3D, is less eye strain, so I thought I should think seriously before tossing that out with another feature that put you back in a situation that could bring back eye strain. OK then, back on track, with the Toshiba, I have 120hz for each of the passive 3D fields. The Toshiba still works out mathematically with 3D video and 3D film to deliver a very smooth image, even in a very active movie or 3D sporting event. So, that was my pick. I know… broadcast station still send their signals out at 60hz, that is not what I am talking about (and for the record I am not talking about power supply either). I was able to compare both the LG and Toshiba at the same time, when I bought the Toshiba, and it was a fair and close comparison. However, the Toshiba is clearer, sharper, brighter and less blurry (for actions scenes and text/credits). Plus, the information for Toshiba is in the manual, on their website and sales people seem be very knowledgeable when it comes to the Toshiba. It seems like LG’s marketing team will say one thing, there manual says another and sales people are just as confused (if not more so) than the customer. I know some are calling this a value 3D TV and are willing spend much more, but, for my family this is still a lot of money. So, after I did a lot of research and if I am going to put out K or more for a TV, I need to know what I am going to get, sorry LG – THANKS, TOSHIBA!

There are a lot of settings in this TV that can overwhelm some people. My experience with most newer HDTV’s is that factory pre-sets suck. In order to get the most out of the picture they have to be manually adjusted. And I have had a couple of people tell me their TV is broke because the screen keeps getting dark. And adjusting the one setting that is “adaptive contrast” or “Auto Contrast” fixed it completely.

The images and experience that I received from this TV was phenomenal. Set up the image settings and installed new firmware (didn’t watch with original firmware) watched 3d blu-ray, x-box, and 2d-3d convesion of standard blu-ray. All of which were great. Wi-Fi set-up just fine, Internet apps seem to be slow, TV does take a longer than expected time to power on. Settings,I started with for those interested:

Price is not everything., July 8, 2011
This review is from: Toshiba 55TL515U 55-inch Natural 3D 1080p 240 Hz LED-LCD HDTV with Net TV, Black (Electronics)

Alright let’s get started. I will admit that the price of the Toshiba was very interesting at first. I have had Toshiba TV’s in the past without any concerns. Since my past television decided to wear down I needed a new one. The passive 3D option was the direction I was willing to pay for rather then getting an active display and all the extra costs. So I went with the Toshiba hoping for a good product at a great price. Got the TV shipped for free through Amazon. Shippers did a good job. Set it up and powered it on. First thing that was noticable was the horrible, HORRIBLE backlighting problems with this set. Since I had never seen this TV before, I went to another TV store to find out by looking at several edge lit TV’s. None had a problem with black like this TV had. So I returned it to Amazon and tried to replace it with the same model TV. Returning the TV was fine, and the shipping was great again. So here is the review of the same model and brand of TV.

CONS:

Backlighting-Still had problems with backlighting during dark scenes. A streak of light gray moved from the top right of the screen to the bottom left of the screen. This was to much of a problem for me to spend the amount of money that I did on the TV.

Sound-The speakers on the TV are very poor and high pitched. I tried to adjust them, but it never really changed.

Powering on-This set does take a long time to power up. Not really a big deal.

Channel changing-takes longer then you would imagine to switch between channels when watching HDTV through the internal tuner.

PROS:

Passive 3D-The passive 3D was great for gaming and movies. No problems at all.

Picture-The options availiable to adjust the picture is amazing. It displayed great colors and images when the TV was used and the picture was not in a dark screen.

Remote-Was easy to use and the setup was easy to understand.

Overall this TV is not a bad TV. Maybe I am just picky, but when you spend money you want a good product. This TV did not meet my expectations for the price it costs. Maybe it is because they purchased the rights of the technology through LG but did not build the TV the same. I don’t know. And the poor backlighting problems I was experiencing with this TV was just too much.

So I returned the TV and purchased the more expensive LG 55LW6500. What a difference 400 dollars makes! If your just looking for something to throw in a room and don’t really care then the Toshiba will be perfect.

Panasonic DT30 3D LED TV – 37″ (Also in 32″)

The viewing experience has never been so lifelike and compelling as it is with Panasonic’s 3D technology. Compared to conventional panels, the IPS Alpha panel used for the 3D LED LCD TV has doubled the response speed for a more uniform and rapid response. The newly developed and original high-speed drive system achieves the highest level of 3D image quality with minimal crosstalk and comfortable viewing experience.

Panasonic lcd tv question by Crunch: Digital Audio out on a Panasonic Viera 32 inch LCD tv, cables needed?
I’ve gotta 32 inch class Panasonic Viera LCD tv and the only audio out I have is either HDMIx2 (one being used for my xbox 360) and a square looking jack which I’ve never seen before. It’s labeled digital audio out. I was hoping I could wire my stereo, which runs regular RCA cables but it’s obvious I can’t do that. So I’m wondering what kind of cable do I need to have sound run through external speakers so I don’t have to worry about ruining my tv speakers. I’ve found a cable but I’m not sure if it’s correct. I’ll post a link below. Without spending a whole bunch of money, what do I need to do to run my audio to external speakers?

That’s exactly the type of cable you need: a digital optical audio cable (sometimes referred to as “toslink”). But don’t buy it from the linked site — they can be had for much, much cheaper, and as with almost any digital cable (e.g., HDMI), the cheap cables are every bit as functional as the “nice” cables. I would look on Amazon, eBay and/or monoprice.com for the best buy. Should be able to get one for around $ 5-6.

I’m not clear, however, on how you intend to connect your external speakers. Do you have a home theater receiver?

You have it connected to component. You need to connect it to composite, or if your TV supports it, set it to use component Y input as composite.

best mount for a large screen tv, May 20, 2007
By

This review is from: Sanus VMPL3-B Tilt Wall Mount for 27″ to 84″ Displays (Black) (Electronics)

I recently purchased the brand new panasonic th-58pz700u, this is a large tv that weighs 140lbs, so after doing much research I found this sanus mount to be the best one for this large tv, the hardware that comes with the mount is excellent, you do not have to run to the hardware store for extra nuts/washers bolts etc… everything you could possibly need comes with the mount. the best part about this unit is that you can install onto 3 studs instead of the more conventional 2 stud installation, this makes it much more secure. I was very lucky in that my house was built back in 1955 and back then they used studs spaced at 12 inches apart instead of the current 16 inch apart requirement, this enabled me to actually use 4 studs for the install, needless to say this tv will never fall off the wall. basically when your going to install this mount read all the instructions thoroughly first and then use masking tape to “draw” on the wall exactly where you want the tv, then figure out where the mount will go in relation to the tv’s mounting holes, then just find the studs and install the mount, I am very happy with this mount and tv looks great, enjoy

Amazon Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
This review is from: Sanus VMPL3-B Tilt Wall Mount for 27″ to 84″ Displays (Black) (Electronics)

Ok, after reading reviews on how this mount would not work with some panasonic sets (as well as some others), i was not sure if i needed to by the extended adapter. Just to avoid the installers leaving should this not work i bought the adapter.

results: you DONT need the adapter/extender for this TV. everything you need is in the box.

Sanus TV wall mount – impressive in this day and age …, January 20, 2007
By
Jerry Cipriano (Santa Monica, CA) – See all my reviews

This review is from: Sanus VMPL3-B Tilt Wall Mount for 27″ to 84″ Displays (Black) (Electronics)

In this day and age of mediocre design, shoddy quality control, unreadable instructions, I was quite impressed with this wall mount. It’s only a wall mount and, as such, is not the focus of attention. However, it is the slimmest, lowest profile wall mount I’ve seen. There were multiple options for stud wall mount and concrete block wall mount, and there were well thought out hardware options included. Frequently when I buy a product such as this, I have to run down to the hardware store to get additional nuts and bolts because I’m finicky about the installation. In this case, There was enough hardware and nuts and bolts left over for me to open a hardware store. After I talked to a structural engineer (I didn’t hire one of course, but I’m in a related profession) about mounting over a fireplace, I found the enclosed procedure and hardware from Sanus were even better than the engineer proposed.

I had a 50″ plasma to mount. This bracket had enough hole spacing options to mate to this and a thousand other TVs. It had optional brackets, which I didn’t use, that could have extended it to what seems like a 100″ TV, although don’t sue me if I exaggerated.

I also liked the fact that it was made in the USA. The only nit to pick was that the company took about 3 weeks over the Christmas holidays to get it to me.
