Our Sharp 42″lcd Tv Has Been Damaged Giving Shattered Look To Screen. Where Can This Be Fixed?

by admin on February 6, 2010

My 3 year old has thrown an object at our Sharp Acquos 42″ LCD TV, which now displays a shattered effect on screen. Can this be fixed or do we have to buy another? I’m reluctant to make an insurance claim if I don’t have to. The screen is not damaged,

You should have a limited warrenty on the product if its newer. This is a tough situation but i would suggest calling Sharp Inc. and talking to customer support. Best of luck and hope ive been of some help :)

Sorry, but you are in a bad place. Some of the LCDs themselves have been ruptured; they cannot be fixed. No manufacturer’s warranty will cover physical damage. If you bought from Costco, they might have a “no questions asked” policy but that would also depend on how old the TV is.

It would be cheaper to buy another one than have it fixed.
If it has a “shattered look”, yes, the screen IS damaged.

No, it’s definitely not possible to repair unfortunately.
For one, if people did bother repairing these TVs, it would cost more to repair than replace.
And, that’s why they don’t repair. It’s such tiny and complex technology, only if perhaps a single pixel dies would they repair it. Even then, I believe they usually replace.
