I bought a 40″ Toshiba LCD about 3 or 4 months ago, I noticed about a week ago that on the left most side of the screen there began to show horizontal lines on the screen. They are equally spaced down almost the top half of the screen each extending to a random point straight to the right. It is most noticeable in the far upper left, which can be seen from far away, while the others appear only when I sit close to play xbox. They were not there before, and as an avid gamer they are becoming a bother, I have the warranty on the thing from Geek Squad but I really would rather know if I can quick fix it myself. I read that it might be interference, it’s not, I unplugged everything from the sockets save the TV and the lines remained. I messed with every setting, from backlight to contrast in an effort to dull or erase them to no avail. It bothers me when I cannot fix things myself and I would like to have some idea as to what is wrong when the tech gets here (if i have to call him). I’m thinking that it might be something wrong with the backlight, but I honestly don’t know how one of these things works! Help!

yout tv is only capable of hd….if your connecting it to a wall, that means you are using coax. Not best signal possible.

This review is from: LG 47LK520 47-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV (Electronics) I previously bought an LG 42LD550, used it for a few months and was quite happy with its quality, but the 42″ screen size was a little too small for my living room, so I decided to get a bigger TV instead. The LD550 has better features than the LK520 — its internet application was one thing that attracted me, but it requires an adapter which doesn’t come with the TV, so I never got to test it. I guess I don’t need this feature anyway, so I returned it and bought the 47″ LK520, at the same price — it was on sale on Amazon for about 7 hundred. The shipping: This model came out in March 2011, and I placed the order in April. I guess because it is relatively new, so I had to wait 4-6 weeks for the product to be shipped. So after waiting patiently for over one month, my TV finally came. I was expecting the guys from the shipping company to open the box and let me check the TV, just like what they did when I bought the other LG model. I was surprised when they told me they couldn’t open the box, and that I should open it on my own, and keep the box for a year in case I need to return it. This sounds a little weird, but I signed the delivery sheet anyway. The assembling: It only took a few minutes to assemble this TV. My brother and I laid the panel on my sofa bed with the screen facing down, and secured the base/stand with a few screws. It looks like the stand was made of some cheap plastic. I hope it’s more sturdy than it looks. The look: This TV has a simple, sophisticate design. I like the matt screen and the glossy black frame. There’s a small blue light on the lower right corner when the TV is on. Althought the remote control is easy to use, the design looks boring and cheap, some buttons/features seem like a duplicate to me. But I guess it’s not a big deal, as long as it works. Sound quality: There are several sound modes you can choose from. It was set to “standard” by default, and the volume was low, but it was much better once I switched it to “music” or “cimema”. I also turned on the “surround sound” feature. Over all I am happy with the sound quality. Picture quality: I’ve had this TV for about two weeks now, at first I was impressed with the picture quality — it’s crisp and clear, and the color looks very nice, just like the LD550 model. I set the picture mode to “Cinema” –the “standard” mode is a bit too bright for my sensitive eyes. Of course you can create and save your own picture mode by adjusting the brightness, color, and contrast, etc. But one day I noticed the brightness on the TV screen changed suddenly — it went darker, then after a while it went bright again (looks similar to when there are rolling clouds in the sky on a sunny day). I didn’t turn on the “inteligent sensor” and I think the lighting in my room didn’t change. I did not have this problem with the LD550 model. I am not sure if I got a defective item or what. Right now I give this TV a 4 star, and hoping there’s an easy fix for the brightness problem. I’ll test it for a few more days and decide whether I should call LG, or return it…. *** UPDATE: I found out the reason that my TV would suddenly go darker is because I had the “Engergy Saver” on (it was set to “Auto”). So whenever the sensor in the TV detects a change of lighting in the room, it’ll adjust the screen brightness automatically. Sometimes the screen goes so dark I can hardly see. I am not sure how much energy it can save by doing this, but I find it annoying to me, so I turned the feature off, and the problem solved! I am glad I don’t have to return this TV. I am happy with my purchase so far. The LK520 LG model is very similar to the earlier model LD520 (highly rated), except that the dynamic contrast is apparently a bit better for the LK520(150K to 1 vs 100K), but I suspect that may not be that significant. INPUT-OUTPUT It has sufficient inputs (HDMI, component, etc), and outputs, although I still wish these new HDTVs had a regular stereo output (ie., 2 RF outputs) so I could use them with my old amplifier. The LK520 only has 1 optical digital audio output. However, the sound from the LK520 speakers is surprisingly robust, although most will probably want more to complete the home theater experience. The LK520 also has a USB port, but I have not used this yet. The specs say you can connect your external USB devices for JPEG photos or MP3 files. (Note, this model does NOT have any internet connection capabilities–however you could hook this up to a BluRay DVD player that has this capability, if you want it). I hooked up my cable box via an HDMI cord, and the LK520 provides a clear HD picture and does well with regular SD channels also. I hooked up the TV with component inputs from my oldish DVD player, and it looked very good. (Some day I will get a BluRay, so I can see more pores, I guess, on close ups…). FEATURES The LK520 has 120 Hz, so if you watch a lot of sports, this might be important (I don’t). So maybe the 60 Hz LG LK450 might be OK for you, and save you 60-80$ . However, note that the LK520 has a slightly higher dynamic contrast compared to the 60 Hz 42 inch LG LK450 (150K vs 100K). The weight is only about 35 lbs, so it is relatively easy (if a bit awkward) to carry around. Also, the screen does not seem to have any serious reflection problems in stronger lighting situations. The TV picture can be adjusted to your preferences, but I found the default settings good enough for me. It is Energy Star rated, which is good, but I found the “intelligent sensor” adjustments a bit too dark for me. However, you can adjust this as your wish. SUMMARY: I don’t think you can go wrong with this excellent LG HDTV. I would rate it at 4.5 stars. Some minor limitations on audio output and the somewhat high price that I paid at a big box store (BB) made me give it a 4 instead of 5. I may update this if I find any problems later…. i recently bought my first lcd tv, a 32″ toshiba…i dont really have anything to compare it to, except a CRT but to be honest the picture looks very pixelated/blurry when up close to the screen, especially any writing. from a distance it is ok. i thought it might be the feed but sky, freeview and dvd’s look the same. i would have thought a dvd should be crystal clear. am i expecting to much or is this tv rubbish. the model is : Toshiba Regza 32AV615DB 32-inch Widescreen HD Ready

You have to feed the tv an HD signal. Regular dvds and sd tv feeds will be blurry. You will need to upgrade to HD things to see HD tv. HD cable box, blu ray, etc.

I have a 47″ Toshiba LCD screen TV in my bedroom that has developed some sort of screen problem. Its about 4 years old and up til recently has had no problems. The TV works fine with the exception of a wavy shadow that is about the area of the screen where the different screen formats would meet.
What I mean by this is on cable the screen format might be normal and the TV will black out the unused portion of the screen,but while watching some dvds the whole screen will be used. Where this black out area would be is where this problem approximately runs. When the whole screen is in use the center part of the screen is slightly darker shading while the outside part of the screen is the lighter shading. The two meet around the format line in an uneven wavy spot that seems to follow that format zone line. The problem is not screen burn, it is there from the moment the TV gets turned on (cold) and does not get worse as the TV is used and heats up. It has been on ups surge protection since first in operation 4 years ago. The problem is there and the same no matter what video input is used, RCA, HDMI, S video, PC in, still there. Has anyone have any experience with this problem or the possible cause?????? Thanks for your input

TOSHIBA lcd tv question by Harrison’s Mommy: Brand new Toshiba LCD TV keeps turning itself off and the back on instantly?
My mother-in-law just purchased a brand new Toshiba LCD TV yesterday and after setting it up and about 30 minutes of great brand new tv fun it started to glitch out, the stations started to come in and out and then the tv started to turn itself off and then immediately turn itself back on again. I did just the basic setup per the instructions so I don’t know if I may have missed a timer setting or if it’s an issue with our power source (the tv is currently plugged directly in the outlet) or a power source issue with the tv itself. Anyone else experience this?
Don’t want to return it if it’s just a setting we have wrong.

Research Report on the LED industry of China and the World from 2009 to 2010

In the 1950s, RCA first found the infrared radiation of gallium arsenide in other semiconductor alloys. LED is a luminescence component made of semiconductor materials. The component has two electrode terminals. Voltage is applied between the terminals and electricity is switched on. And after the combination of electricity and hole, the remaining power is released in form of light. Different materials have different wavelengths and thus send out lights of various colors. This is the basic lighting theory of LED.

LED can only be applied in diodes that can send out visible light. The diodes that send out near-infrared radiation are called IRED. The diodes that can send out some ultraviolet radiation are called UVLED, and their emission peak wavelengths are near visible short wave length limits. But generally, the above-mentioned three semiconductor diodes are collectively called LED. According to their different encapsulations, they can be divided into Lamp LED, Display LED and SMD LED. LAMP and DISPLAY belong to the mature market and their growing space is limited.

According to their different constituents, LED wafers can be divided into binary wafers (GaP, GaAS), ternary wafers (GaAlP, GaAsP), quaternary wafers (InGaAlP) and chloride wafers (GaN). Chloride wafers mainly include blue-ray, pure green-ray and white-ray wafers. They have different materials and manufacturing procedures. That LED can be so highly valued is also because of GaN materials.

According to the manufacturing process, the LED industry can be divided into three stages: epitaxy or epiwater in the upper course, chip producing in the midstream and packing in the Downstream. There is also a manufacturer before the upper course, that is, the substrate manufacturer. It usually produces sapphire substrates. It also has carborundum substrates, which is the special esoterica of CREE. However, because it has a low output value and can be applied in RF, it is not really a member of the LED industry chain.

In the upper course, producers use single chips as substrates for epitaxy, and then employ different epitaxies (such as LPE, MOCVD and MBE) to foster multilayer and polynary thin film materials with different thicknesses. And in the midstream, according to the demands of LED structural components, producers first do evaporation and then make metal electrodes in both terminals of LED through photolithographic and heat treatment on epi wafers, and then cut them into LED crystal grains after wearing down substrates and polishing. In the Downstream, producers use packing techniques to pack crystal grains into LED products and pack them into different applicable products to be used in the applicable markets.

The global LED industries are mainly concentrated in Japan, EU and Taiwan. EU is mainly dependent on PHILIPS and OSRAM. Japan has Nichia, Toshiba, Showa Denko, Sharp, Citizen and Toyota Gosei. Only Nichia produces mainly LED. But even Nichia, it has a high rate of phosphor business. America has CREE. These areas have a very high industrial concentration of LED. The top 3 manufacturers account for over 80%, even 90% of the output values. The LED industry is comparatively scattered in Taiwan. But its top 3 manufacturers also account for nearly 40% of the output values.

Manufacturers in the mainland are most scattered and they are mainly concentrated in the Downstream. There are nearly 1,000 manufactures mainly doing the packing of LAMP with the lowest profits. Less than 5 manufacturers can do large–scale SMD packing and less than 10 manufacturers can produce large-scale outdoor LED displays.
