Great TV – Top Brand – Great Size For Bedrooms, August 9, 2011

We Recently Purchased the Samsung UN32D4003 LED TV. I must say i was a little weary do to the fact that it is a 720p and not a 1080p (all i have owned is 1080p). Once I have hooked it up I really cannot complain, being 32″ its very hard to tell the nuance differences in 720p & 1080p, im sure if the TV was bigger there might be a viewing issue.

This was purchased for our bedroom where 32″ is the PERFECT size anything smaller is hard to see and anything bigger belongs in a Bachelors bedroom which i am not.

Amazon as usual had the BEST price available on this TV & even if they didn’t they will price match for you ! How wonderful is that !

This is the 3rd Samsung TV we have owned (recently purchased a 58″ 3dtv which is amazing) and literally have ZERO complaints ! I tried researching this TV before purchasing with no such luck, i literally couldn’t find a single review. My only GRIPE (if you want to call it that) is that the LED is a little cartoony, this is the first LED tv we have owned so it will take some getting used to, but the overall picture is perfect !

This 32″ is a bit HIGH when compared to other brands, BUT it is Samsung whom i think takes the CAKE in TV manufacturing (Sony is a close 2nd). So for those of you wanting a 32″ and not wanting to go with a Sharp-Onyo-Vizio, This TV is for you it also has 2 HDMI ports which is more then enough for what we are using it for.

Good Picture no Audio Out, August 25, 2011

I purchased this TV from Amazon on Monday and reveived it on Wednesday. I was looking for a TV for our bedroom and based on the reviews and price this set looked to fit the bill. After hooking it up and adjusting the picture it seemed to work great for my needs. Then I started looking for the audio out and/or hedphone jacks so I could hook it up to my ZVOX audio system. To my suprise this set has neither. Wow I have not seen a TV without audio out or headphone jacks in the last 20 years. What were they thinking? I was able to hook up my ZVOX system to the cable box but it is not the best arrangement. If I want to use an over the air antenna I am stuck with the small intergrated speakers with limited volume.

Great TV, Great Brand, no complaints!, August 15, 2011

I purchased the Samsung UN32D4003 last week, and I was a bit skeptical because I literally couldn’t find a review anywhere on the internet. However, it being a samsung tv and an LED, I was almost assured that it would be a good buy. Having had the tv for about a week and a half now I am very impressed. The picture is as good as any larger 1080p televisions and it also very visually striking because it is so thin being an LED, and also just the overall design is fantastic, because I found most 32″ tv’s to be quite ugly. I was able to buy it with a 10% AMEX code, so my total was 359.99 and for that price I don’t think theres a better 32″ tv on the market. The speakers are the only thing about the tv that is not phenomenal, but im planning on buying a small logitech system to fix that, and that is only because I’m an audiophile and love quality sound, for everyday usage the speakers are fine, but if you are looking for something that sounds good even at high volumes then a cheap surround sound will make a world of difference.

Quirky DLNA, underwhelming documentation, but great picture and sound, April 15, 2011

I chose this model over other 32-inch LCDs because I’m a sucker for things like network streaming, a 5-band equalizer, picture-in-picture, and firmware updating. It also has a semi-documented headphone jack in the rear — just turn off the speakers for it to work. Also, the power cable detaches, so you can replace that yourself.

One might dismiss this TV altogether since it doesn’t have LED edge lighting, but that tech does not appear to be earning its price premium so far, considering a higher percentage of panel defects, and a black level so intense that detail often gets lost. 60Hz is also not a deal-breaker, since 120Hz tends to only show its strength with sports programming.

The picture quality is ultimately subjective, of course. But I found it well above average. Unfortunately, you can’t completely disable Dynamic Contrast. The TV will tell you that it’s off, but some enterprising Internet detectives at televisioninfo.com have determined that this is a ruse, which leads to some unavoidable light trailing and somewhat crushed blacks. DVDs look surprisingly good, and standard-definition signals look very solid but not outstanding.

Dynamic Contrast, Black Tone, Shadow Detail, Edge Enhancement and the noise filters should probably be turned off. Unfortunately, these features can create more problems than they solve; use them sparingly. Like Spider-Man once said, “With power comes responsibility.”

I have a Roku box connected through HDMI, an Xbox 360 via component, and clear QAM cable TV through the RF antenna jack in the rear. These hookups are going straight into the TV inputs — no receiver. I figure that this eliminates a testing variable or two. Picture quality and sound was great from all three sources. When I streamed Netflix over Xbox Live, the Xbox appeared to upscale to 1080i. I could not get my 720p Roku box to do this over HDMI.

(Edit: I have also now tried a third-party VGA adapter for the Xbox 360. It looks quite good using the console’s “Expanded” reference level; at least on par with component, and upscaled DVDs look quite good, but not as good as Blu-ray.)

Audio is in a better boat, since the SRS functions can actually be turned off (as far as we know). There’s also that 5-band equalizer. I thought the TV did surprisingly well for two downward-facing 10-watt speakers, but they won’t quite replace dedicated external audio.

The D550 doesn’t do Internet apps, but this feature is becoming increasingly redundant. As for network sharing, you are not limited to Samsung’s proprietary, Windows-only “PC Share Manager” software, either. There’s a variety of free, multi-platform software that handle networked media libraries. Unfortunately, Samsung appears to have not implemented DLNA according to spec, so you may have trouble getting third-party software to work properly. I had the best experience with TVMobili, which is thankfully free and compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux. Serviio is also good.

In its promotional material, Samsung swears that its Wi-Fi “LinkStick” dongle is *required* for wireless networking (and it is not bundled with this TV). This is simply not the case. You can just use a wireless-N Ethernet “game adapter,” which can be had for as little as if you shop around. Dongles are also only compatible with a few devices from one manufacturer.

(Edit: It’s come to my attention that an Intellinet 523974 *might* also work in place of Samsung’s official dongle. I cannot directly confirm it, though. It is also reportedly 2.4Ghz, while the dual-band Samsung model adds a 5Ghz option.)

The “E-manual” built into the TV’s menu system isn’t very good and is difficult to navigate. The PDF version on their website is… a PDF version of the e-manual. Which is white text on a black background. So much for printing it out…

Also, the two-piece pedestal requires a Phillips screwdriver. That’s not bad, but the screws required quite a lot of torque to get them all the way in. Also, you need to attach the top part at a certain angle, or else it won’t be flush with the base.

A note about shipping: Amazon Prime does not currently provide 2-day or next-day shipping for this unit; “3-5 business days” is the official line. This is not unusual for products of this size and weight. However, the unit arrived at my door less than 48 hours after I ordered it. So I appreciate Amazon’s and UPS’s fast service! But your own experience will vary according to your distance from the warehouse and other factors.

I ordered this product: Samsung LN32D550 32-Inch 1080p 60Hz LCD HDTV (Black) around 1pm yesterday with One-Day Shipping and received it today around 1pm. Amazon always is the best for quality of service and working with the best package delivery companies. I have been looking to purchase a 32 inch TV for my computer room for the last 3 months. I waited for the 2011 models and I am glad that I did.

Setup (putting the stand) on this TV was very simple and the user interface is very easy to understand. I have tested input lag with video games as well as quality on a Blu-ray. You need to adjust your setting when hooking up an Xbox 360 to completely get rid of all input lag noticeable to the human eye (I had to label the HDMI port as PC). The PS3 on the other-hand has no noticeable input lag tested with multiple settings. I watched a few minutes of I am Legend on Blu-ray and the video and audio quality is amazing.

The LN32D550 has more settings and options (except internet apps) than other current 2011 32 inch LCDs.

Video: black tone, dynamic contrast, shadow detail, edge enhancement, motion lighting, digital noise filter, mpeg noise filter, etc.

Audio: SRS TruSurround HD and SRS TruDialog

Vs my other TV Samsung LN40A650 40-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV with RED Touch of Color this TV has a better interface, more settings, better sound quality, and very similar picture quality but lacks 120Hz motion technology.

This TV is all around a great purchase and product.

Input lag test were done playing Call of Duty: Black Ops on the 360 and Uncharted 2 on the PS3.

Best TV I’ve personally seen in 2010 and 2011, April 2, 2011

For the last year I’ve been looking for a TV to replace my 2009 Samsung 26″ LCD. It had what some people call “smudging” or “smearing” where if two really dark images move near one another, the black area would leave a trail. It looks sort of like when you make a dark circle with a pencil and run your finger over it. It made night scenes in movies and games really distracting. I even saw it in people with black hair watching 720p Lost episodes.

From what I can tell so far, this set has none of it. I went through a Sony, a Toshiba, an LG, and another Samsung. All but the LG had this issue, and the LG had atrocious black levels due to it being a technically “better” IPS panel. I love my LG IPS monitors, but for TV it looks awful. So I stuck with Samsung’s PVA panels, and boy am I glad I did.

I immediately turned off all the video processing options and turned the backlight down from 14 to 8. IMPECCABLE picture as far as I’m concerned. Looks incredible even at 1080i. It’s no plasma, but hey, 32-inch plasmas don’t exist, so I’m content with LCD.

I have no idea how the input lag is for video games since I play relatively slowly paced games. No fighters, competitive FPS, or other twitch reflex games in my library. I’d be a bit leery if that’s super critical for you until more accurate tests are out there. It seems fine to me, but I’m not very sensitive to lag, so take it with a grain of salt.

Bottom line, great picture quality, great black levels (for an LCD), decent motion handling (it IS only 60Hz), lots of options to mess with, plenty of inputs, a sleek design. I would buy this TV again in a heartbeat, personally. As the first reviewer said, JUST what I was looking for.

The Best 2011 TV in the market, April 4, 2011

I have been researching TVs for past few months and thank God I waited for this one. The Samsung UN46D6300 46-Inch LED TV is the latest in this series. This is the highest-end of its 2D LED Line. After this 3D series starts.

The Smart Hub with full Web Browser with Flash support made me buy this TV over others. It has been just five days since it came and I started using this TV. Everyday learning something new.

So far I have used Smart Hub for Netflix (with HD streaming), YouTube and mostly streaming Flash videos from different sites using the Web Browser.

It take a bit practice with the supplied remote to navigate thru sites and to enter URLs or search on Google page. But when I connected my HTC EVO 4G with this TV using Samsung App, Samsung Remote, things became very easy to enter because it (the App) supports full QWERTY key board in real time. BTW Samsung is coming out with a new product QWERTY Keyboard and Remote combination for those who are interested. I believe it will be priced about 0.00. I don’t know weather I will buy that after having the App on my EVO.

The Samsung App Store have a huge collection of Apps. The biggest help is Samsung support videos that makes life very easy without the guess work.

Great picture quality in LED. Nice sound, I have not plugged it in external speaker system. Decent size for my living room (55-inch seemed a bit bigger for me).

You do not get Smart Hub and Web Browsing in 2010 Models. Also all models below 6300 series in 2011 do not have Web Browsers. I highly recommend this TV (D6300 Series) over 2010 models (C6300 Series).

Overall Great TV (Video Gamer Review Included)!, April 19, 2011

Cons:

Some apps missing from TV

I read a boat load of reviews on a bunch of TVs and went to BestBuy on numerous occasions to figure out the perfect TV for me. I picked this TV over the D6000 because I wanted the web browser. Overall, the TV is amazing. Picture quality is excellent, I’m very impressed with the “auto motion plus” feature that adds frames for fast scenes. I’m a big time sports fanatic and gamer so I was really interested in this feature. You can also adjust how hard you want it to work, which is awesome. The sound quality is good, I didn’t expect to be blown out of the water since all TV companies expect you to connect their TV to a home theater. You also don’t need to put in special codes to adjust the RGB, it’s all there in the menu for video-enthusiasts.

It has a blu-ray mode that optimizes blu-rays to look their best. I saw “Dark Knight” in a whole new light this past week! It has a game mode that turns off all the extra processing to minimize input lag. The Smart TV function is great. It continues video in the top left corner and you can browse your apps like Netflix, Hulu Plus, Facebook, YouTube and all that awesomeness. The 6300 comes with the web browser which works well. It also allows you to watch TV and browse at the same time.

The only problem I have with the TV is the remote. You can definitely tell they made the remote to frustrate you and get you to buy the new keypad. Luckily, there is an app for that on androids and iphones. Also, I’m a fitness enthusiast so I was excited that GymBox and Exercise TV came for free with the TV, however, they aren’t there or available for download. My guess is that they still are rolling out all the apps since it’s so new.

FOR GAMERS:

Game mode cuts lag down but sacrifices picture quality to do so. The game still looks good but it’ll make you sad when you compare it to game mode being off. I tested out Uncharted 2, Crysis 2, Gears 3 beta, and some sports titles. With all video processing turned on, there is a definite lag, HOWEVER, I have found out with game mode off, you can cut off LED Motion Plus and set Auto Motion Plus to custom and have it at a 1-3 depending on preference, it will still look amazing and minimize lag. I’ve gone online and my K/D has not suffered at all(Uncharted-1.5, Crysis-1.5-but this past week with the TV it’s at around 2-3 K/D with the improved picture quality). I tested out Mortal Kombat with everything still on and it played great, I didn’t go online, though.

Great TV with mediocre browser, June 29, 2011

This TV is exactly sames as the D6000 plus a web browser (I don’t care much about missing a few contrast ratio). That’s the sole reason of me buying this unit.

The TV is GREAT and produces STUNNING picture quality! I was so happy to buy this sammy and never regret it. I guess lot of people have posted about the feature and quality of TV so I would keep it to the point.

I am bit tech savvy and would like to be specific about observations. I was thinking to avoid buying Google TV (~0) by purchasing this browser enabled TV. You need to understand that this is not a computer/smartphone however the browser loads websites very quickly even faster than some of the smartphones out there and does support flash videos however I had few issues:

1. It crashed loading some websites like HULU.com . this site loads lots of tiny flash videos ready to get played and I guess TV sometimes couldn’t handle that.

2. As another reviewer mentioned it lacked sound sometimes while refreshing the page or even at beginning. I experienced it with sony’s [...] and MTV.

3. I also noticed that videos were choppy on heavy websites including both Crackle and Hulu. I understand it could be due to internet connection however I am at 10Mbps and I did verify my net speed at the time of this issue.

I own a PS3 and I think the browser in a PS3 is way better than this TV. Its a pain to launch keyboard while a site is loading and TV is very sluggish, even the iPhone app remote wouldn’t help much that time. Other times iPhone/Android remote app is the best for typing. Nonetheless, most of the other popular stuff like twitter, facebook, Youtube, google talk, daily motion, fandango, ESPN etc are already downloadable as an APP for this TV hence I really got to used the browser very minimally.

Other issues I found with this TV was clouding effect where all 4 edges as well as center part of screen are bit whitish and you could EASILY notice that in an average dark scene. Again I am very specific to observe and hence it may not be much of an issue for some people.

I use external speakers with this TV and there are good no of options for you to connect external speakers:

1. Audio out jack (this is what I use with my old Altec lansing speakers)

2. Optical Audio output

3. ARC (Audio return channel)

Because of these drawbacks I actually purchased the D6400 which was on a promotion and is 3D enabled. I am very happy with that TV and picture quality seems to surpass what D6300 offers in terms of smoothness and clarity. Again this is my observation and it could be different with you.

To sum it up my recommendation would be to either buy D6000 or D6400 depending upon the deal you are getting.

Great Monitor, May 7, 2010

I recently purchased the Samsung B2230 to replace an old 19 inch Samsung monitor. I thought the older monitor looked great but this one is fantastic. The colors are more vibrant and it is a 16:9 aspect ratio compared to the older 16:10. This means that most widescreen movies no longer have the black bars on the top and bottom.

The controls are touch sensitive and took a while for me to get used to but are easy to get used to. The older model I had to reach underneath to hit the buttons and for the B2230 I have to use my finger on the labeled menu itself right below the Samsung logo. The monitor is gorgeous with its all black design with 1 blue light to show that its on. The monitor can reach full 1080p with a 1920 x 1080 native resolution. It does lack a HDMI input and only has a DVI and VGA input but for 0.00 this 21.5″ monitor is a steal I am very happy with this purchase.

Great price, basic LCD monitor, June 22, 2011

I bought this monitor to replace my failing Acer LCD monitor.

What I don’t like:

1) Glossy black bezel… why is everything glossy black nowadays?

2) No height adjustment.

3) Driver disk insists on using IE instead of Firefox… to install a driver?

What I like:

1) Ooo la la, nice price!

2) Easy to assemble and use.

3) Most important: *Gorgeous image quality*! The image quality is absolutely superb. I don’t know if I was just lucky or what, but I had no bad pixels. PLUS the colors are rich, and text is nice and clear.

4) If you don’t mind the glossy black, and the “no height adjustment possible”…. it’s a very nice looking monitor. Very stylish. One oval foot. It has one very discreet blue light in front that is dim and not annoying. Generally it is modern and modest looking.

5) SAMSUNG. They have a very high, very good reputation, both for quality and for customer support.

6) The screen itself is matte, and no-glare.

7) Has both DVI and VGA ~ports AND connectors~.

Energy-efficent

9) Lightweight (in a good way)

Over all, a very good value.

EDIT: Some other reviewers warned about using this monitor with Nvidia cards, but I have an Nvidia GTS 250, and had no problems or issues whatsoever.

Decent, but not the best in class., May 31, 2010

This is my third Samsung PC LCD, owning both a 22″ 1680×1050 226BW for over three years and a 25.5″ 1920×1200 T260 for a year (had a bad 22″ and got it replaced – the 226BW reviewed here January 19, 2008). Anyway, I bought the B2230 for a 3-LCD gaming rig setup. If it could be done over, I’d have bought another monitor, specifically the P2250, which I’ll buy for the 3rd LCD to complete the setup.

First, the pixel pitch on this monitor is about the same as the 22″ and 25.5″ (.28xxx mm – the P2250 has .24xxx pixel density – more pixel density = better display quality). I was hoping for a little sharper clarity for a 1920×1080 resolution monitor in this size, especially considering the 25.5″ shares nearly the same pixel density over 4″ more of screen real estate. The 25.5″ is as clear as the 21.5″ in website text and the holy grail of display quality for me: cockpit instrument readability in Microsoft Flight Simulator X. There is of course a sharpness option on the menu, but it just doesn’t help much for what I was expecting.

With that said, it’s still an okay monitor for the average user. It’s a few pounds lighter than the 22″ and runs very cool. The touch menu options and feel are pretty standard for Samsung. People new to Samsung’s PC LCDs may find the front bezel touch “buttons” awkward and hard to work with, but it sure beats trying to deal with Samsung’s buttons on the side and bottom of my other two monitors blindly. Similarly, the gloss bezel may be a put-off to some and definitely is a dust and fingerprint magnet. But I like the gloss – it appears to be the norm these days from manufacturers and matches everything else in the house TV/monitor wise. No red “touch of color” here to match the gorgeous T260, but it still looks good on the desk. The mount does allow for tilt, but as so typical in this price range, no height adjustment.

Finally, the brightness of this monitor needs to be toned way down out of the box, to less than 60%. You will be spending some time calibrating this to your liking. All in all for those who want a run-of-the-mill 21.5″ LCD that’s 1080p capable, this is an acceptable monitor, but as mentioned, not recommended for those who appreciate higher pixel density output. Think of this LCD as the Enterprise rental Buick of 1080p Samsung monitors: it serves the purpose and grandpa thinks it’s awesome, but not something to brag about to friends.

Great TV and a reasonable price for 3D Entry, April 28, 2010

The Samsung C750 is the most reasonable 3DTV on the market in terms of price. Not only is the television fully 3D compliant with the new standards, it also is an excellent 2D LCD television as well.

The 3D aspects of the television are the most interesting and what separates it from most other LCD’s (including Samsung’s 650 model). Although there is not much in terms of content to try out, I have watched Monsters Vs. Aliens 3D, Played Avatar the videogame on the PS3, watched the Masters in 3D, and tried out the 2D to 3D Conversion on live TV, movies, and games.

Unfortunately with all 3D sources, I have experienced some “ghosting” which is a problem where you see a double image. That said, I did manage to configure my Samsung 3D Bluray Player to the correct TV size (by default it’s 55 inches) plus I upgraded the firmware and that seems to have made a large improvement. I suspect the picture size spreads out the effect and will cause even more ghosting than normal. With Avatar the game, I left the 3D effect at 1, set the correct TV size and viewing distance, and chose side by side 3D (you have to set the TV to match this) and the effect was brilliant! I do still see ghosting during cut scenes, but during gameplay it looks fantastic. The Masters, was a bit of a mixed bag. It is also side by side 3D and at times it is brilliant (when the camera pans around the environment your jaw will drop) but the first time you see severe ghosting you are taken out of the moment. However, I think once Cable and Satellite receivers are more 3D ready, you should be able to configure for the screen size, depth, and viewing distance.

2D to 3D is unique and has its moments of brilliance but also has severe drawbacks. Let’s put it this way, you won’t confuse Monsters Vs. Aliens 3D in it’s native 3D format for watching Monsters Vs. Aliens in 2D to 3D conversion. The conversion (you can change the depth) actually can be quite blurry with some material and most material isn’t worth watching converted. Some movies like Star Trek are kind of fun but I wouldn’t buy the television strictly for this feature.

2D content is fantastic. The color (even the black level since you can configure the backlight without having to hack the firmware), sharpness, and overall features (such as MotionPlus) are astounding for the price range. I actually have turned off MotionPlus simply because it gives non sports programming a “Spanish Soap Opera” effect. I did run into a bit of a strange issue that seems to have gone away by resetting the cable box where the picture bounced up and down using a Time Warner HD Cable box hooked via HDMI (you need HDMI to view the Masters in 3D). I really can’t hold that against the TV, it was more the cable box but I’ve read of similar problems with some Samsung models so there does seem to be some buggy firmware with the box.

Overall if it wasn’t for the ghosting issues still being present (it could be the content, but I cannot be sure, I’d like to test more 3D Televisions) and the 2D to 3D conversion being slightly underwhelming I’d give this TV a perfect score. As it is, if you are in the market for an affordable HDTV and want the 3D option, you can’t go wrong. You have plenty of inputs (plus two usb slots) and the TV is a beautiful compliment to your entertainment room so I highly recommend this television (it’s nearly ,000 cheaper than the LED model of the same size).

Edit as of 5/12/2010:

I’ve had this TV now for a few weeks and gone through a firmware update, tested some more functions, calibrated it more, and updated the firmware on the Samsung 6900 3D Bluray Player twice.

I want to change my comments on 2D -> 3D conversion. I don’t know if it’s the firmware upgrade or what, but now I definitely see a difference in most scenes (I have the depth up to 10). Games like Uncharted 2 with a map like “The Village” look fantastic converted. I’ve also managed to get Avatar (The Game) on the PS3 to look great with side by side 3D with minimal ghosting. Since the firmware update and the 3D Optimize option for the TV, Monsters Vs. Aliens 3D also looks very good.

I did have a stupid moment where I noticed a huge lag playing something like Rock Band and finally realized there is a game mode. Since going to game mode, I have no issues playing videogames and the response time is virtually nothing now.

I absolutely love the TV, it does have some flashlighting (You don’t see this unless the screen is ENTIRELY black) but 2D content looks fantastic and 3D is impressing me more and more. For a while it was even cheaper than it is now on Amazon but the price went back up. It’s still worth it. I see some people bashing the TV simply because the glasses aren’t included or it’s not competing with the Panasonic 3D Plasma models but they obviously haven’t seen it. Everybody that…

Impressions after 1 week, June 29, 2010

Finally got the Samsung from Amazon after almost 2 weeks. Slowest shipping I’ve seen in a long time. I’d rather pay a few bucks than wait weeks for free.

Initial impressions:

Picture Quality: Out of the box the picture/brightness/backlight is very “bright” but varies greatly depending picture mode. Movie mode adjusts the picture settings to very close to the calibration settings for the C650 for movie watching (lcdbuyingguide calibration). I only took 3-5 mins calibrating each input for the devices I use and it took me a few mins to find game mode as it’s not in there with the picture modes. Very extensive picture settings and 5 Auto Motion Plus modes with a Demo mode if you’re not sure. Overall the picture is pretty jaw dropping with my HD Cable not to mention Blu-ray.

Head to Head with Bravia EX700:

Don’t have a preference in TV brands and wanted to try a Sony this time around. I still have the Bravia but it’s going back to Best Buy this weekend. To our eyes, textures and colors on the Sony appear more realistic and probably more accurate but it’s pretty dull looking. The Samsung is more alive and side by side with the same movies playing from the same source everyone here picked the Samsung no matter how much I brightened the Sony. The dark scenes on the Bravia don’t compare. Even with the backlight all the way up, it starts to wash out and just doesn’t have the same WOW. That’s the only way I can describe it. I also get bad contrast loss on the Sony if you move just 2 feet away from the center in any direction but I thought that was normal. I can’t detect it on the Samsung until you view from almost the side of the TV. Huge viewing angle. I only watch from the middle anyway.

I could go on listing the features I like and dislike but this is getting long so I’ll just tell you my favorite one so far. I play tons of HD movies from my PC across the room. The streaming from my wired network to this tv works better than my 360 and PS3 hands down. There is absolutely no loading time. I have about 80 MKV’s (close to 1TB) in one folder and it loads instantly and streams them perfectly. This has to be seen to be believed. The streaming options are like that of a DVD/Blu-ray player with many nice functions. The Sony does not compare in this category at all. It wouldn’t stream mkv’s and it degrades the quality of anything it CAN stream. I just thought maybe these tv’s added DNLA for kicks but no REAL functionality. Not the case on the C750. The internet options and the AP news ticker are sweet too. I”ll leave it at that for now and maybe review the 3D if anyone is interested. So far I’m very happy with this tv and still looking for flaws. If you have any questions feel free.

UPDATE on picture quality 6/29/2010

Quick tip I’ve found that most people don’t do: For HD content, especially HDMI, turn your Sharpness down to 10 or less to get rid of jaggies. You will see a tremendous amount of jaggies out of the box on new tv’s as they set the Sharpness way too high. You only need to turn it up for SD content.

I’ve had enough time with the tv to properly test things out and I’m still very impressed. There is definitely a little contrast degradation at wide viewing angles. It’s not detectable unless you watch tv from the side of the room or you’re looking for it. One thing I didn’t like was how they named the Auto Motion Plus. Instead of Custom, Low, Medium and High, they call it Custom, Clear, Standard and Smooth without telling you what’s high and low. You have to figure it out through testing it and that just added to the learning curve when testing the tv’s functions on different stuff. I also noticed that if you set the Auto Motion Plus to high on some cable content you get some kind of judder/smoothing effect you don’t get on low or medium. I personally love the Auto Motion effect on most content though. At minimum, I use the low setting on everything except videogames and it brings the picture to life.

If you play games online you MUST use game mode and there’s virtually no detectable lag. All the picture settings are adjustable in game mode except Auto Motion. When you first turn on Game mode the picture will look horrible as the default Sharpness is set to 50. Turn it down to 10 or less to get rid of the jaggies and the picture is pretty perfect. The TV can pull off some good visual tricks but the processing adds lots of lag so don’t turn any of that eye candy stuff on like Auto Motion Plus unless you’re playing offline.

I can only imagine the horrible laggy, jaggy experience people are having if they don’t do minor calibrations. Sharpness alone can kill your HD picture but with game mode turned off, Auto Motion on and other smoothing techniques on, the lag is almost…

First HDTV, Great Choice!, May 11, 2010

SHORT AND SWEET:

If you aren’t already sitting on a 1080p HDTV or are looking for the affordable angle into the upcoming 3D ready technology GO FOR IT!

EDIT:I can’t say enough good things about this television. It has been well worth the investment even without using its 3D capabilities yet.

Into:

I hadn’t taken the plunge into HDTV’s yet and was still watching on a 32″ JVC tube television. I’ll be a dork and admit that after seeing Avatar in 3D and with an upcoming birthday, I started researching the 3D ready televisions. Early reviews of the Samsung line were positive and only critical on the high end screens at an A/V level I won’t be concerned with as an HDTV neophyte. Upon seeing Samsung’s line up I had noticed the LN46C750 was the only non LED or Plasma offering, making it pretty much the most affordable 3D ready television out there. The info I found said the C750 should be like the B750 that CNET thought was quite good. Once the product showed up at Amazon, I went to big box store to check similar LCD’s as well as try the 3D display they had setup. Being impressed by both I bought the LN46C750 the next day. I got the tv for less (killer deal) than it’s going for now, but this price is still only about -400 more than a straight LCD of equivalent statistics.

Delivery & Setup:

The television came a few days earlier than expected! Box was undamaged and everything was in order when I pulled the set out. Having looked at LED LCD televisions in person that are sub 1″ deep, I still find this television looks beautiful even with its portly (kidding) 3.2″ depth. I have it set up on it’s cool looking “X” stand on the old televisions garbage entertainment center (to be remedied in the future.) Directions are straight forward, I plugged in my cable, power source, and a ethernet cord–the WIS09ABGN wireless LAN adapter came later. Auto setup found all of my channels, set the time on the TV and updated the pre-installed apps.

Picture:

I mostly have left the picture settings alone, other than obviously picking home use over store display. Standard def. Cable doesn’t look great, but I was expecting that as I’ve upped my PC monitor before and gone through the same issues. The free over air/cable HD channels are looking NICE! Unfortunately I do not have a Blu-ray player yet, and so I can’t test really high end content. What I can say is I have one of the cheapest Target-special DVD players out there and STILL standard DVD’s are looking great. SO good in fact that on some I have to turn down/off the Auto Motion Plus settings to avoid that re-shot-old-movie-with-high-end-home-video-camera look. The “mexican soap opera” look if you will. The exception is my animated selections. I tossed in Finding Nemo and it looks flat out amazing! Black levels (people seem to crow about this a lot on reviews) look good to me. With no signal in the lower 2 corners there is a bit of what I guess is “flashlighting” but nothing I find significant at all and when those parts of the screen are actually receiving signal I don’t see it at all.

EDIT: I now have a PS3 functioning as my Blu-ray player and movies have looked amazing! Black levels look great to me, movies are chrystal clear and even a game like Uncharted from 2007 looks beautiful. I have now found that going with basic/manual image settings almost always displays a better outcome than letting the Auto-Motion and Anti-this-and-that take their shot at the images.

WIS09ABGN Wireless LAN Adapter:

Setup is no harder than getting a laptop to find your wireless router. Just plug it in after the television is on, and it will bring you through entering the password. Works excellent and given the shape of the back of this screen it fits in and won’t be a problem even if you were to hang the set flush to a wall.

Apps (Incomplete): I have only really used the Netflix app as of yet. I have found that the HD streaming content looks great, and the SD streaming content goes from very good down to “meh” or even a bit jerky on screen. Given the HD content looks so good, I feel I can eliminate wireless bandwith issues. I think it is just a varying quality in the SD content they offer.

EDIT: Either the television is hitting its stride, or turning off all of the image enhancers has greatly aided the jerky movement I thought I was getting from the Netflix streams. Everything looks excellent now.

Sound:

I didn’t anticipate running that much sound from the set, but since I’m streaming Netflix I find myself using the TV speakers more often than expected. I could use an Audio Out to my receiver, but I’ve found the sound to be surprisingly good (maybe it’s that chubby 3.2″ dept giving more room for the speakers).

Near Perfection, June 29, 2011

I’ve had this beast of a plasma for about a month now and I am truly still being blown away. Like other reviewers, I was on the fence about Panasonic versus Samsung. I also wanted something OVER 60 inches, and plasma was the way to go to keep costs reasonable. It was either a Panasonic VT65 or GT65 or the Samsung D8000 or D7000. I read countless point and counterpoint discussions on the AVForum site for months…And when I saw a great deal on this 64D8000 I jumped on it and am totally pleased with my choice.

PICTURE: Unbelievable.. Out of the box, it was amazing. Midnight blacks and bright clean whites.. I mean watching the Boston Bruins play in the Stanley Cup was the first thing I saw when I had this on…the black shirts contrasted against the white ice was amazing. Close ups of the Bruins uniforms looked like the TV was powered off on that part of the screen. Really great. Blu-rays of course looked even better. Again the blacks stood out and colors really popped…TRON: Legacy looked UN-believable!!! Just when I thought I’d seen it all, I went into advanced options in the menu and entered a professional calibration result from a tester on AVForum. It took awhile entering in all those R G B settings, but it was totally worth it. (Saved me a couple hundred I’m sure) After my “calibration”, I saw the true power of this Samsung. The colors came alive. And the contrast and flesh tones became more realistic. Blacks were inky (definitely a popular but very true word to describe these blacks) and even darker than before! So, before I thought the picture was amazing, but now it was near perfection! I honestly can’t see how even the wildly popular, overpriced Panasonic VT series can beat this…(according to CNet reviews, they BARELY edge out this tv in picture quality). But you won’t be disappointed with this Samsung. I’m no TV expert but I’ve had lots of HDTVs the last decade, and keep up with the latest. Plasmas aren’t going away anytime soon… This is a big, bright, beautiful beast. Even more beautiful if you calibrate it, or “calibrate” it on your own.

DESIGN: Very nice looking, when turned off. The dark titanium bezel is attractive (darker than the picture shown here on Amazon) with a nice glass edge to give it that classy look. The stand, I agree, is kind of ugly with it’s chrome spider legs..but you gotta hang this thing anyway. This thing is meant to hang on the wall. Its surprisingly thin for a 64-inch plasma. The screen is a bit reflective so it looks nice when it’s off, but plan accordingly if you want this in a room with lots of windows. The reflections will be noticeable. The remote has a nice Qwerty keypad for entering text, and I actually like it’s flip design…although that keypad should light up! It’s useless in the dark. There is an app to use on a smartphone that I have yet to try.

3D: I’ve only watched Directv 3D channels, so I haven’t gotten a lot of 3D experience yet (no Blu-ray 3D yet either even though I’m ready for it). What I have watched is nice. I got two free pairs of battery powered glasses and one rechargeable pair that I paid for extra. The 3D is fun to watch and clear in HD. It is still a gimmick in my book, and I can only watch so much of it before I get annoyed. Bottom line, 3D on this tv looks good (dimmer, but still clear and nice) but I bought this for its 2D picture… 3D is nice to have though, and I’m looking forward to trying out a 3D Blu-ray sometime soon..

SMART TV: Like the 3D feature this is nice. But not necessary in my book. I still use a computer for Internet features and YouTube videos, not my TV. That being said, I think the layout of this Internet connectivity is nice and smooth. Not as smooth as a computer or iPad but it works well enough. And it has built in wifi, so I had to try it out. I was impressed, and I have occasionally gone back to this for sports scores or a YouTube video once in awhile. Samsung has done better than I would have guessed with this “Smart TV” thing…I imagine some people, not myself really, will get a lot of use out of this..

NEGATIVES: okay, so this not perfect. There are a couple things I will point out that people will surely notice. First is the reflective screen. I notice it even in my window-less downstairs room when lights are on and the scene on TV is dark… This TV is meant to be viewed in a darkened room with minimal light. Second, if you’ve read up on plasmas then you’ve heard about “buzzing”. Apparently, Samsung has had buzzing issues before. I tried to notice this right away but couldn’t. Then during a quiet scene of a movie, I sat dead center in front of this tv and happened to turn my head away from the screen and heard it. Now, to be clear, this is not a loud “buzzing” sound and I’m not even complaining about it, but if you are dead center in front of the TV in a quiet scene and you turn your head (directing…

Could not be happier, April 26, 2011

My wife and I just purchased the pn51d8ooo about a week ago from Paul’s TV. I would have bet that we were going to walk out of the store with a led/lcd model. The salesman was extremely helpful with explaining the attributes of the models we were considering. He eventually steered us towards this model for consideration. It seemed strange to me that since they work on commission at this store he would try to sell us on the plasma (less expensive than the comparable led/lcd), it soon became clear that this salesman (Nick)not only knew what he was talking about but wanted us to get the best product for the money. This model is more full featured than anything else out there. It has full web browsing capabilities (yes, that’s right – you can actually surf the net, buy from ebay or Amazon, google anything etc., etc.) There is a built in wireless card unlike all of the others we saw which required you to buy a dongle or other accessory. The picture in the showroom was awesome. Although not as brightly lit as the led models, the colors seemed more natural to me. the blacks were richer (when viewing from an angle the led blacks turned more gray than black). We paid ,069.00 which included the starter 3D kit (two pair of glasses and five 3D movies). The remote is awesome, a standard tv remote on one side but flip it over and you have a full qwerty keyboard and other keys which make internet surfing so much easier. I do have to say that my wife was concerned that we would not like the plasma as much as we would have liked the intense brightness of the led model.

After getting the TV home we took a few days to set it up because we were waiting on a new console stand. I took that time to run a network ethernet cable to the tv location (wired is always faster and more reliable than wireless, but I’m sure that the wireless signal would have worked fine). Set-up was a breeze, stand mounts to tv easily, switching between apps, tv, and internet was very intuitive. We were concerned that we might need to have the tv picture calibrated (as recommended by other stores for 9.00 additional), but were thrilled with the picture right out of the box. There are four picture modes (Dynamic, standard, movie and relax), we are using dynamic which is extremely close to the brightness of the led models. The sound is more than adequate for us. With the wired internet, the set took literally 30 seconds to connect successfully. The netflix problems that I have read in one or two other reviews must have been resolved because I have not had even one glitch. The apps are great but there is a bit of a quirky apps account registration you have to get through. All in all we are extremely happy with our purchase. I haven’t tried the 3D yet but it has full 3D and I’m sure we will love it when more 3D titles are available. Hope this long winded review helps. p.s. We purchased the five year service agreement just to have the peace of mind that it offers, we had a smaller lcd previously that we had to have repaired and it was a bit expensive.

After years of dragging feet, this TV made me JUMP to HD…, April 26, 2011

…although I should thank Amazon Warehouse for first sending me a busted-up 50″ version of last year’s C8000 or I may never have experienced the awesomeness of the 59″ D8000!

The great (and exhaustive) information at AVSFourm lead me to this beauty, which I purchased from BuyDig due to Amazon Warehouse hanging me up on a C8000 replacement, and then Amazon taking forever to get the new 2011 Samsungs into inventory and listed for sale. I’ve got mine paired up with a Samsung BD-D6700 3D Blu-ray Player using AmazonBasics High Speed HDMI Cable. I wall mounted the set with a Sanus Vlt14-B1 Super-Slim Tilt Mount bracket. I’m using Samsung’s SSG-3100GB 3D Glasses that came as part of the Shrek/Megamind 3D Starter Kit, which was included as a promotional item with this set.

Regarding picture quality:

– Simply outstanding. Crisp definition. True colors that aren’t overly bright or artificial. Inky black blacks.

– No ghosting or shadows. Great with fast action and camera panning. Haven’t tried video games.

– No sign of jutter or film effect; the high refresh rate makes any motion smooth and realistic, especially noticeable in-store when comparing this side-by-side with a lower refresh TV.

– Not so hot as a PC monitor with respect to reading tiny text.

If you’re worried about the size possibly being too big:

– I thought I was pushing my luck after my wife commented that the broken 50″ C8000 that showed up at our front door (but was never mounted) looked “too big.” And I’ll admit, this 59″ TV is huge, but once we sat back to enjoy it, I don’t know how we suffered (*cough, cough*) with out 32″ Trinitron tube for the past 14 years.

– With whatever up-convert happens between our DVD player and the TV itself, standard definition movies still look fine on this set. No, they’re not as amazingly crystal clear as high-def Blu-ray content, but they’re not at all blocky as I had expected.

– You will want to take advantage of any HD cable, satellite or over-the-air broadcasts you might have available. Standard definition television picture quality will make you crazy after knowing the cleanliness of HD. (In our case, we’re sticking with Comcast’s most basic service but added their converter box, and are paying them about per month.)

– The VESA mounting pattern on the back is 800mm x 600mm, the largest size the Sanus mount I linked to supports. It’s probably worth checking that whatever mount you select is compatible with this pattern.

3D movies on this set are simply outstanding. So far, I’ve only got the Shrek discs that came with Samsung’s starter kit to view, though I’ve got a couple more on the way. The big screen gives a really perceptible depth effect when viewed from my normal sitting position approximately 10 feet away. But we have a wide room and even from viewing angles of 45

i heard there are projection tv’s and there are LCD tv’s, also what does DLP mean? i want a television that the view doesnt change if u you move to the right or left, because some televisions go darker when you move to the sides, i want a television that gives the same perspective from different angles.

Digital Light Processing (DLP) is a technology by Texas Instruments where it uses thousands if not millions of tiny mirrors to reflect light resulting in bright colours. Most DLP’s as much as I know are used in projection TV’s as it makes logical sense (as it reflects light). A combination of DLP and LCD is not visible to the end viewer. as it is within the box (TV or projector) and the LCD itself is really small.

The only reason I am not giving five stars is because the phone came with six apps from a developer in Portugal that I don’t want but can’t remove from the phone. I would recommend this phone to those who want a small device with a little intelligence and not so difficult to understand and use. We had high hopes when we purchased this “unlocked” mobile phone through Amazon.com, however, upon receipt we soon realized it was only partially unlocked. We spoke to AT&T Customer Support over the phone, took it to our local AT&T store, followed by taking it to a Best Buy Mobile store, and all three sources, and their multiple representatives all concluded the phone was not fully unlocked. This is a UK based cell phone, and we are US based customers currently on the AT&T network. The phone is unlocked in the sense that we can make and receive phone calls without issue, but not fully unlocked in that the phone does not permit us to send or receive photo messages, nor can we connect to the internet with it. When AT&T and Best Buy Mobile Reps went into the menu settings of the phone, to where they needed to adjust the corresponding tower/network code to remedy these issues, the UK code was grayed out (0.0.00.0) and therefore unchangeable to a US one. I then e-mailed Samsung USA and Samsung UK with no response. AT&T phone based customer support was unable to proceed with any step-by-step instructions, as this UK phone is not in their US database, which is why we then went to our local AT&T store instead, per their request. When our local AT&T store could not help us in any way, despite the best efforts of their entire in-store team, we then proceeded to Best Buy Mobile, who also tried vigilantly, without success to address this issue. We also Googled this issue, and found a few other folks who had these same issues, but nobody seemed to be offering any real solutions. On that note, we even posted our issue on Fixya.com, with no response of any kind. Having exhausted our efforts, today I called Amazon.com who was kind enough to e-mail us the necessary information to begin our full-refund process. It’s just unfortunate we could not find a fix for this issue, as I am sure it’s out there somewhere, as we would have liked to keep the phone. None of the US phones currently for sale at our local AT&T store or local Best Buy Mobile are said to be waterproof, as this one is, and all of their “military grade” phones are flip-phones, with minimal water resistance. If you do not care about being unable to send/receive photo messages, or connect to the internet, and just want a durable waterproof phone, this may be the phone for you. There’s a “Samsung B2100 Review” currently on YouTube, which I will attempt to link below, showing the phone fully submerged in a tank of water, receiving a phone call, and still working perfectly when they take it back out. Oh, and it has a built-in flashlight too, just in case (no camera flash though). I was looking for quite a while for a phone that, on the inside, was nothing more than a phone (send & receive calls, send & receive text messages, and store numbers) and on the outside was durable enough to stand up to some healthy abuse. I haven’t dropped it in a river or run over it with my truck, but I do shop work everyday and have dropped it, banged it against machinery, and my wife threw it at the dogs once, and it’s still ticking just fine. I have read some reviews about it not being able to send media messages or access the internet if you’re in the US. To me, that’s fine. I haven’t even tried to because I didn’t care about that to begin with. So, if you’re looking for a phone with some brains in it, you might want to look somewhere else. If you just want a phone that can take a good beating, this one is right for you. Above all, my best points of impression are: 1) Screw Secured Battery Cover (regular snap-on ones are the first things to break otherwise) 2) One-piece keypad cover (good for water resistance and reducing dust contamination) 3) One-piece body (sliders and flip-phones will always break eventually, I don’t care what they might say) 4) A LED flashlight that could blind a grizzly bear (you never know when you’ll need it) 5) Small size (the only other one-piece phone I found similar to this was the even-more rugged 0 military spec. phone, and that sucker was around eight inches. This phone does fit into the fifth pocket of most blue jeans, by the way.) Samsung television question by Koto51: Help with hooking up a Ps3 to an LED Samsung Television?
I just got a ps3, but I cannot figure out how to hook the audio L audio R and Video cables into it. I have no problem hooking up my xbox 360, but simple cannot with the ps3. My t.v. has Red Blue and Green input slots instead of yellow red and Green. The problem is that the ps3 does not have a Blue Green and Red option like the 360 does. Please help me, I’m lost.
